Gates

New gates for existing fences or as part of a new fence line, built in wood, vinyl, aluminum or chain link.

The gate gets used every day, so it's usually the first part of a fence to go wrong. Wood gates sag until they drag on the ground, latches stop lining up, and gate posts lean from the weight. Sometimes the fence is fine and there just isn't a gate where you need one. We build gates as part of a new fence, or we add them to the fence you already have. Before we set posts, we think about what has to fit through: a mower, a wheelbarrow, trash cans headed to the curb, or a truck and trailer through a double drive gate. Wood gates get a diagonal brace so they hold their shape. We hang and adjust the hinges and latch until the gate swings and closes clean. We build gates in wood, vinyl, aluminum and chain link, including arched gates that match an aluminum pool fence. The owners are on every jobsite, and we don't use subcontractors. Common questions

Can you add a gate to a fence you didn't build?

Often, yes. It depends on the condition of the fence and the posts on either side of the opening. We'll look at it and tell you whether a new gate will hang right or the posts need replacing first.

How wide should a gate be?

Measure the widest thing that will go through it, such as a mower, wheelbarrow or trailer, and leave some room on each side. For vehicles, a double drive gate keeps each leaf lighter and easier to swing.

Why do wood gates sag?

The weight of the gate pulls the latch side down over time, especially if the post is undersized or the gate has no brace. A diagonal brace running from the bottom hinge corner up to the latch side, hung on a solid post, keeps it square.
